Effect from 1 September 2024
The Global Library is a user-centric space that cultivates a culture of sharing knowledge, resources, and spaces. The library’s reading halls offer dedicated study areas to support patrons’ academic and research pursuits. To cater to students who have different study routines, we have made the study areas accessible 24/7. It is important that users of these study areas assume responsibility for adhering to basic etiquette to maintain a respectful and conducive study environment. Everyone who uses the library and its reading areas has a responsibility to contribute to its positive atmosphere.
To uphold the Global Library’s core values and create a harmonious and functional learning space for all, we are implementing the following Patron Behavior Policy. This policy incorporates feedback from the user community.
SILENT ZONE
The Global Library is a designated ‘Silent Zone’. Therefore, users are requested to maintain complete silence in the library premises.
Respect patrons’ right to quietly study in the library reading rooms. Conversations and group discussions are not permitted in the library premises. There are several other spaces (e.g. Sama)
that might be used to carry out the group discussions for academic purpose or otherwise.
ELECTRONIC GADGETS
Telephonic conversations inside the library premises are not permitted. One may step outside the library, or to go to the designated areas, i.e., the bridges connecting the reading hall and
central library, to make or receive calls. Keep the mobile phones and other gadgets, including the smart watches and laptops, on silent mode within the library premises.
The use of speakers connected to electronic devices, such as laptops, tablets, or smartphones, for playing movies/reels or listening to music is strictly prohibited within the library premises. Use earphones when consuming multimedia content.
FOOD AND BEVERAGES
Food consumption is strictly prohibited within the library premises.
Only water and non-alcoholic beverages in closed containers are permitted for consumption within the library premises.
Water dispensers are available across the library. Please dispose of empty containers in the provided bins.
LIBRARY PROPERTY
Rearranging library furniture, damaging or defacing library property, such as scribbling on tables, is strictly prohibited and will result in appropriate disciplinary action under the JGU Code of Conduct for students.
RESERVATION OF SEATS
Reserving seats within the library is strictly prohibited. Any items left unattended on a seat for more than 15 minutes will be removed by library staff and handed over to the ‘lost and found’ section managed by JGU security.
The library assumes no responsibility for patron’s personal belongings which are left unattended.
VIOLATIONS UNDER THIS POLICY
Violation of this Patron Behavior Policy may result in disciplinary action under the JGU code of conduct for students
REDRESSAL AGAINST DISRUPTION
If you feel uncomfortable or disturbed by another patron’s behavior, please do not hesitate to reach out to the library floor managers or the security staff for assistance. You can approach a
library floor manager or security staff member directly. Alternatively, you can email glus@jgu.edu.in, and our staff will be happy to help you.
Library helpdesks would function from 9:00 A.M. till 12:00 A.M. (midnight) in Global Reading Room, Reading Hall 1 (East), and in the Central Hall. A security staff would be stationed there 24 hours.
