The Global Library has set up an Assistive Technology Center (ATC) with the objective of bridging the gap between disability and access, fostering an equitable learning and working environment for all JGU students, faculty, and staff. The ATC is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities by providing them with the necessary tools and resources to access library materials and educational resources effectively.
ATC offers a range of specialized accessibility equipment, software, and services to people with disabilities. These include screen readers for individuals who are visually impaired, magnification tools for those with low vision, text-to-audio conversion software for auditory learners and individuals with reading difficulties, and scanners with integrated translation features to make materials accessible in multiple languages.
Beyond hardware and software, the ATC provides crucial support services. These encompass training and technical assistance to ensure users can effectively utilize the available technologies. The center also offers consultations to help individuals identify the most appropriate assistive tools for their specific needs. Furthermore, the ATC provides file conversion services, enabling users to transform documents into accessible formats
In response to the diverse needs of people with disabilities, ATC librarians work closely with the JGU’s Disability Support Committee and special educators, both within and outside the university, to develop and implement new support services.
